  • Married With Children

Yep. Turns out that's what the guy I've been dating is. Actually, technically he has only one child. But that's not quite the point, here, is it?

See, I'm not talking about a sad lonely bitter marriage between two people whose kids have flown the nest and they hate each others' company. Their kid's not even at pre-school.

    I do fucking pick 'em, don't I?

  • Surplus To Requirement

    So, getting made redundant sucks.

For those of you who've been expecting calls, I'm afraid some of the bills came further down the list than others.  I've lost track of how often I've had my phone cut off and I can't really afford the skype credit to call from SkypeOut.

Anyhow, I've been using the time wisely (as I'm sure you can see)...

Just thought I'd, you know, bring you up to date.

Happy Birthday, Kate.  Sorry I missed it.

  • Remember Your Lovers

Ralph (that's pronounced 'Rayf', by the way) had an argument with his ex tonight.  It was that bad, he thought it was going to escalate into violence.

I'm glad I wasn't there.  I'd like to think that I'd be some kind of help, but really, I'm not that confrontational.  At least, I'm not any more.  I'd just get upset and rage about it impotently; afterwards.

Funny how I got into the habit of saying nothing until I snap.

Well, I guess I was never that good at communicating that sort of stuff anyway.

Ralph is like Drew in a number of ways.  He draws a ridiculous amount of amusement from bodily functions, rarely loses his cool, is remarkably intelligent and is, plain and simple, a decent guy.  Except, where Drew wouldn't know where to begin a fight, Ralph would get in and finish it.

So it's ridiculous of me to worry.  It's not like he can't handle it.  He was handling it long before we even met.  And he'll handle it far better than any way I could manage.

You'd think dating a sociopath would have prepared me better.

  • Woah!

    Did something happen in America?

  • It's a Jolly Holiday With Mary

I'm on vacation till Saturday (and I've run out of Skype credit). The show went really well, and I was due a break. Accordingly, I'm having one!

I'm updating from my phone so if this entry is poorly formatted it's because I've never tried this before.

Until Saturday, then, here are some thoughts regarding prospective employers (a situation I'm having to seriously consider at the moment). Don't work for someone who can't make their point clearly, or as part of a team where communication is poor. Avoid assholes altogether. If you have the feeling the job is even slightly wrong, you're almost certainly correct; absolutely trust your instincts, particularly if you're signing a lengthy contract. Don't be conned by a good package.

That said, if it feels right, and you're not as fussy about the nature of the work as you are about remuneration, definitely take the risk.

Fairly sure I'm repeating myself, but I'll appreciate the reminder eventually.

  • Plus Ca Change

At around 10pm is the saddest part of my day.  If I'm going to feel lonely, that's the time.

Xanga has changed a lot, but somehow not at all.

Funny.  I see a few people I'm subbed to have decided to come back now.  Others are gone.

It's a weird old thing.  How do you get in touch with people you want to talk to, but are afraid to ask if they'll still be there?

    Xanga.

    Plus c'est la meme chose.

  • Songs of World-bitten Cynicism And Weariness

    Another six months.  Wow.

I wanted to come to Xanga and post.  I wanted to email and skype my friends in the States.  I missed people.

The first month in the new house, I didn't have internet access.  King did manage to get it to work, but there was some problem with the wireless that prevented me from connecting.  He told me he'd get me some cat-5 from work, but it was a long stretch from his room to mine; I guess he just couldn't find any long enough.  Or he didn't bother.  I'll never know.

I was so busy that first month, between work, training and rehearsing and a desperate need to stay on top of the housework that even though I missed it so much, I didn't have time to make sure I got it.  After a while, I became used to that isolated feeling, and it underlined the general misery of trying to be all things to all people, and I figured it might be good for me to stop wanting what I can't have for a while.

I got a stone in my parotid gland and I stopped running because the jarring gave me chronic headaches that made me think I was dying.  I was given painkillers that made me behave like I had PMS on acid (I've never been on acid, but I like the phrase).  I couldn't feel the pain from my injury when I trained and when the shaking in my arm tipped me off that there might be a bigger problem there than I had thought, I stopped lifting.

I quit at the opera group.  Should have done that long before I did.  I just stepped off the committee, and walked away.

King turned out not to be the person I thought he was.  I think I turned out to be not the person he thought I was.  I came home to my parents.

I've done a lot of thinking.

I've been unhappy.  I've been happy.  I've put a brave face on things.  I've let things explode from me so that no-one can be unaware how I feel.  I've screwed up and I've done things right.

    It's all choices.

I was right to move out; the change did me good.  I learned a lot.  Mostly that I'm not a terrible person, but I am fallible.  It's so obvious that it ought to be more easily comprehended than it is.  I still worry that there's evil in me, but I think that worry is a good thing.  Sometimes I think it maybe makes me behave that little bit better than I would otherwise.

I remembered that I like people.  I remembered how hard I find it to dislike people.  I like people and I don't keep grudges.  I was trying so hard to keep a bad one and desperate to hate its object.  It was good to let that go.

I learned that I really can't live with men who leave pee on the toilet seat.

I rediscovered a zen-like enjoyment of washing dishes.

I decided I am so much more than surface appearance, but ultimately concluded I'd rather be fit than not.

I met some people with whom I want always to be friends, and I missed the friends I wasn't in touch with even more.

I took up a new hobby.

Things aren't perfect - they never are - and sometimes I find things hard.  But right now, the sun's shining, I have no pressing concern other than my laundry needs hanging out and I want to level up my Morrowind character.

Six months to lose myself.  Six to find myself again.

Maybe sometimes I can be a little bit lucky, too.

  • What A Difference

What a difference 6 months makes.

I'm not this girl any more.  Nothing like her at all.

    Incredible.

  • Security Through Obscurity

I fucked up.  Sent an email from the wrong address.  It's a short step from my email address to my xanga.

    I enter a phase of self-censorship.

Time was when David censored my xanga.  "I don't think you should post that; you'll regret it."  "I don't think you should post that; it reflects badly on you."

I never really deleted anything.  I just used to privatize it and, after I cut David from my protected list, I took to posting protected a lot more.

So, if something you were looking for has suddenly gone missing it's because I'm a moron.

  • Cross It Out And Start Again

I have decided it is time.

I am an adult.  I should start behaving like one.

This is not scary.  I can do this.

New year.  New job.  New home.  New start.

    Shiny.
